Brooklyn duo Meredith Minogue and Jim Barry blend folk and new wave into what they call "aggressive acoustic music."

If that sounds interesting, consider they also play around with a Tibetan bell, Glockenspiel, viola, and enough sea imagery to satisfy the most Freudian listener. Against Barry's varied instrumentals, Minogue can sound like a cross between Chrissie Hynde and Cowboy Junkies. Such complexities put this debut practically in a category by itself, or at least, in the category marked "artsy/intelligent/sophisticated/well-made but not too-serious music.
